I am having a bit of a dilemma and would love to know your opinions and thoughts.
Following on from my 'Hairly Disappointed' post, it got me thinking & I thought this would be the perfect place to try and get some answers to an ongoing query I have.
I have been told by numerous amounts of people that I should not wash my hair every day, and should only do it 3-4 times a week. However.. I find this near enough impossible! I wash my hair every day without a fail. I find if I do not wash my hair one day it will go very greasy looking and feels horrible!
I just could not contemplate washing my hair 3-4 times a week.. Trust me, I really wish I could! It would save me so much time :(
Soooo my question to all of you is:
"How often do you wash your hair?"
Do you have any advice? I am starting to find that my hair is sometimes very dry and I think it may be down to washing it far too often!
I would love to know any hints or tips you all have on how to keep your hair looking and smelling nice, without washing it everyday!
Thank you for reading my post! Please let me know if you have any recommendations for my next one!
I wash my hair maybe every other day? Or every two days. I do believe you can train your hair into washing it less. Washing your hair everyday really isn't good for it. So in a way, your hair greases up quicker to counteract act the dryness of the hair. You loose your natural oils when you wash your hair too much!
ReplyDeleteTry and wash your hair every other day... It might seem difficult at first, you'll notice your hair will change! X
Thanks Kate! I might try and do it so I wash my hair, then the next day do not wash it, then the day after wash it etc. and try and get myself/my hair used to it!
DeleteHopefully I can stick to it! As I find after a day at work it looks horrible :(!! x
lovely blog, I follow you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI have followed you back! x
I wash my hair twice a week, I have thick but medium length hair and I used to wash it daily I find it made my hair brittle, dry and horrible to manage before I trained it to twice a week. I also straighten my hair once a week only if I have something to look good for and then I'll just maintain the fringe/bangs wit the hair straightener. Your hair goes through a period of training that it becomes used to less washing, over washing makes the hair go omg must produce more oils especially if you aren't using a ph balanced shampoo sorry for the novel just then lol
ReplyDeleteMy hair is quite thick and medium-long too! Sounds like I am in the same position as you used to be, where your hair was feeling brittle and dry if you washed it every day!
DeleteI will try and wash it every other day and train my hair to get used to it! I guess because I have been washing my hair every day since I can remember it is hard to get out of the same routine!
Thanks for your advice, it is very much appreciated :)
haha no probs forgot to say also its probably the way you shampoo I shampoo only the roots of my head (not the ends) and I only condition the ends not near the scalp. The conditioner too at the scalp can make it oilier than needed. And if you don't get the conditioner near the ends it can go brittle. Also I do castor oil treatments twice a week, I use it like a deep conditioning agent. And you can use baby powder or dry shampoo to help get your hair used to the training as well so you don't feel such a greaseball lol
DeleteOhh really? Do you shampoo the roots then pull it through the rest of your hair? Or do you literally only do the roots with shampoo, then the rest with conditioner? I am going to start doing oil treatments, I was thinking maybe argon oil, but I have never heard of castor oil treatments before! I will definitely look into this :) Thanks lots for your help :)
DeleteI usually just shampoo the roots and whatever runs down when I wash out the shampoo. Then the ends with the conditioner. I found this way less prone to damaging and getting dry. Oil is great I have also been using sessame seed oil as a leave in treatment as its a light oil. Castor oil is very popular on youtube beauty channels lol
DeleteI went through the same thing, I find that you just need to deal with it for a few weeks and deal with that "greasy" feeling. I bet it doesn't look bad at all, and that it just feels bad to you. Keep going and maybe do some hair styles you're comfortable with on the second day before washing, that's what I do! x
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment! The idea of doing some hair styles that I am more comfortable with is a great idea! I usually just have it down, which probably doesn't help with me feeling like it looks 'greasy'!
DeleteThanks for your help :) x
I wash my hair one in 2 days. More often you wash it more often will became greasy.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that on my hair.

Thank you for your comment! :)
DeleteI think I will try and do my hair just once every 2 days, as this seems to be the most popular thing that people are doing! xx
Yeah, I agree! You wash your hair too often and for this reason the hair can be damaged! I only wash my hair 2 times a week, so one in 2 days, and I agree to nicoleta too: more often you wash it moro often it become greasy, and in return, the longer you wait to wash it the better the hair 'suits' the period of days without being too greasy! (If it wasn't how could have done women during the late 18th century, without blowdriers and water in houses? :P)
ReplyDeleteOf course I've followed you back! Have a nice day!
xo
Thank you for the reply :) I am going to try and wash my hair once every two days! It will be difficult, but like you say - in the late 18th century how did women deal with their hair when they did not have blow driers, water and even shampoo in their houses!! x
DeleteSome people say you should wash it every day, some say stretch it out to 2 times a week because its bad for your hair...
ReplyDeletedo you want an advice? It really depends on your hair tyoe ans scalp.
I wash my hair every other day, i like in a warm and sunny place, and when it gets hot, you sweat and well, that means my hair gets greasy/dirty, and I just can't live without washing it every other day even if its kinda dry. But it's worse for your hair to have it oily than dry, unlike common believes.
You just have to observe it, if it looks dirty after 2 days, dont strcht it out longer "because washing it too often is bad". It's worse no to do it, and your hair is more prone to fall out.
Anyway, you have a lovely blog, I am following you now.

Thank you for your reply :) I completely agree, it is definitely down to an individuals hair type & what suits them best! x
DeleteSuper weird, but I haven't used shampoo in nearly a year. (I wash other ways)
ReplyDeleteI have thick curly hair and it used to get greasy if I didn't wash it everyday too.
For me, when I switched to washing twice a week it took awhile for my hair to adjust and then it no longer got greasy until the fourth day of washing.
The first two weeks my hair was gross but I just wore a lot of ponytails!
Hope you figure it out!

Thank you for your reply! :)
DeleteThis is very intriguing to me, but what do you wash your hair with instead of shampoo?
I am going to have to take everyones advice on here and start washing my hair less! I will cut down slowly and do it once every two days, then take it from there! Like you said, I will just have to live with pony tails for a few weeks lol :P!
I started by washing it with a baking soda/water mix but now I am down to being able to wash it with a natural conditioner. I am planning on doing a post about it soon. My hair has never been healthier!
DeleteLet us know how skipping washes go for you, everyone's hair is so different. :)
Yeah I think it's better if you wash your hair less often (it will end up getting less greasy - so u won't need to wash it every day ;) I wash mine every 3 days and find that works well (last day is usually a ponytail or bun though haha) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment :)
DeleteI definitely have to try doing this, and hopefully my hair will "train itself" to not be washed everyday! :) xx
I had the same problem as you! I used to wash my hair every day, and if i didn't, my hair would feel and look really greasy, but this also meant that my scalp got really dry. So I started just washing it 6 days a week rather than 7. It felt horribly greasy at the beginning, but slowly it got better.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I still wash my hair 5 times a week, my hair doesn't look/feel greasy anymore, without washing it for one day (if that makes sense;p). So I think maybe just slowly introduce not washing your hair, for at least a day, for a couple of weeks. See how it goes :) Hope that helps (even though you've got a lot of very useful comments above already! :)) x
Thank you for your comment and advise! As you said I am really struggling because my hair feels/looks greasy if I do not wash it every day! But as you said maybe trying to wash it 6 days a week instead of 7 to start with, then drop it down to 5! And then see how it goes from there!
DeleteThanks for the tip, that has helped a lot :) xx
